Graduate Students

Headshot of Smith Freeman

Smith Freeman (co-advised with Joseph Bump)

Ph.D. Candidate Smith is developing models to understand how forest management impacts the movements of martin in the Pacific Northwest. She is also helping lead a project to develop an animal movement archive for data in Minnesota.

Hannah Slesinski (co-advised with Elena West)

MS Student Hannah is a master’s student studying green heron ecology using movement data from GPS-GSM transmitters. Her research focuses on the migration and habitat use of this species across its range.

Garrett Erickson-Harris (co-advised with Elena West)

MS Student I am an MSc student co-advised by Elena West and John Fieberg. My research interests focus on leveraging emerging technologies and methods to monitor biodiversity during a period of rapid ecosystem change. At the University of Minnesota, I will utilize a citizen science-based bioacoustics array throughout the state to identify key avian habitat associations and biodiversity patterns on often neglected private lands.
